About

Photo: Self Portrait

I discovered photography for the first time in my life at forty and since then it has helped me grow in ways I would never have thought possible. Photography has introduced me to the environment, wildlife, art, and a plethora of interesting people from all over the world. Who’d have thought that picking-up a simple tool could teach me so much about life, people and this planet — I’m amazed.

Unfortunately, I suffer from chronic GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) having bought and sold eight cameras in five years. Thankfully, with the support of my bank manager I’m now on a 12 step program and have managed to reduce this to five cameras albeit across three formats. I don’t think I’ll ever achieve my goal of owning just one camera but I’m hoping to narrow it down to two in 2007. My current cameras include an Olympus OM2n, Canon EOS 30D, Franka Solida III 6×6 and a Shen-hao 4×5 Field Camera. All I’m missing now is three pair of hands and a pack mule.

I think I’m being honest when I say that I enjoy viewing all kinds of photography; cat photos and brick walls included as long as they are attempting to share some insight into their subject matter. In point of fact when given the option of looking at photos or taking them, more often than not I’ll opt to look. On the other hand I might just be lazy. :)
