Ohhhh… Please Mr Google
Monday, May 24th, 2010Yes! I have resorted to begging–it’s pitiful but necessary. I use Picasa …I use it a lot. And just the other day when I decided I was sick of all the paper bills cluttering my folders, draws and etc I thought…. Hmmm…. you know who’d be a perfect candidate for this task (No… not iMatch) Google’s own Picasa!!!!
I could scan all of my bills to pdf’s, have Picasa automatically scan them in, add them to web albums like , phone, electricity car insurance etc. and publish them to private web albums on Picasa web …but nooooooooooo… Even though every publishing and printing house supports the venerable PDF format for images especially composites, Picasa unfortunately doesn’t.
Photographer of the Week: Ed Doucette – RAW – an amateur photography site, featuring a monthly photo contest and much more – Boston.com
Tuesday, May 11th, 2010Shared by Wildframe
I love this photo, a combination of pinhole photography and multiple exposure it carries a sense of ethereal spirituality.
By far my favorite thing about the pinhole camera is the ease with which I can shoot multiple exposures. "Railway Child" and "Thicket" are my two favorites.

run parallel with the lone shadow figure of the boy.
To me, it sums up the relationship between father and son.

Putting lipstick on the pig
Sunday, June 10th, 2007I read an interesting article on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) related by Donncha O Caoimh by way of PhotographyVoter.com over at InPhotos.org on 11 SEO tips for your photoblog which was an expansion of Richard Hearnes article on SEO For Thin Content Sites – Making A P h o t o B l o g More Visible–Whew!
Anyway, it got me to thinking about the amount of time and effort that is required to undertake all of this techno-bridge building in the blogsphere so to speak. I wonder that with the limited time that we have as part-time and hobby publishers that perhaps our time would be better spent writing more meaningful content rather than worrying about SEO. So following on from Donncha O Caoimh’s good advice here are a few of my own tips on getting your self noticed.
Imatch Image Management on Linux
Saturday, June 2nd, 2007
I’d been using Mario Westphal’s excellent Imatch Image Management software for my digital image management on windows since early 2003. Some months ago I decided I no longer wanted to use Microsoft Windows as my operating system and environment but ultimately had to resign myself to having to run my must have Imatch software in VMware. It worked quite well but it irked me having to still be tied to Microsoft Windows.
After some initial false starts trying to install and run Imatch on earlier versions of Ubuntu up to and including Edgy Eft (6.10) I decided to have another try after upgrading to Feisty Fawn a week or so ago. Talk about easy
Photography Is Not A Crime
Tuesday, February 13th, 2007Sydney Morning Herald: Blog Central (Jon Reid) Jon talks about copping an earful from an irrational parent when photographing kids jumping from the rocks at Wattamolla Beach, in the Royal National Park. Photographer’s rights articles relevant to the U.S. have been around for some time now but it’s great to see someone else has decided to dig up the facts relevant to Australia.
You can read the whole article at SMH’s Blog Central >>
Evgen Bavcar: Beyond seeing
Saturday, February 3rd, 2007
When the eyes are blind one must look with the heart and Evgen Bavcar’s photography displays a sensual and conceptual knowledge of the visual world that only the blind can see. As a sighted photographer I find the results of his work humbling beyond belief.
His photography is incredibly articulate and I find myself wondering how he copes emotionally with not being able to physically see the results of his conceptual visions.
A gifted genius pure and simple, a master and quite possibly one of the greatest photographers I have ever witnessed.
Jean-Philippe Charbonnier: Psychiatric hospitals
Sunday, January 28th, 2007
In 1954 Jean-Philippe Charbonnier documented French Psychiatric hospitals and this exhibition includes rarely seen photographs from the series.
Some of the photographs were first published in Réalités in January 1955. Here a selection of the original reportage is shown followed by the magazine layouts – published in the magazine with two fluffy cats on the cover. It is interesting to see that a number of most most powerful images were not published due to the sensitivities of the 1950s and that the eyes of the patients are at times masked to protect their identities.
Hugh Symonds: the art of mobile phone photography
Monday, November 13th, 2006
Hugh Symonds mobile phone photography provides intimate glimpses into the landscape of nature which we often walk by unnoticed. Using a combination of diptychs and triptychs he manages to introduce us to the simple beauty of nature’s happenstance and in doing so continues the traditions first revealed by the great Eliot Porter. Galleries #1 and #6 are my favourites.
His work is inspirational and a must see at Hupix.net
